The Lab/Group interface is the central hub for PIs and Lab managers to manage group members & permissions, and grant or remove access to funds. In iLab, users must be part of at least one lab and have access to valid funding sources in iLab in order to request services or make reservations at a core.
In iLab, all PIs who wish to use iLab and have their lab members use iLab will have a lab created for them in the system. Your lab is created in one of 4 ways:
- If you are listed as the primary contact on a restricted fund within iLab, your information, along with the restricted fund’s information, is passed to iLab on a nightly basis. If you do not already have a lab, iLab will create one for you as part of the process where funds are imported into iLab. Through this process, the fund will also be assigned to your lab automatically. (NOTE: Funds automatically uploaded are accessible only by the PI. The PI must grant permission to their lab members for their lab members to use the funds.)
- A core, through the process of implementation, submits a list of users and their PI’s to their iLab implementation associate. During this step, the PI’s lab is created and the listed lab members are associated with their lab.
- A request is made on the CORES iLab general request form. This request can be submitted by anyone, but is most commonly submitted by a PI or a lab member during the registration process due to the PI’s name not appearing in the PI list.
- A request is made to the Agilent iLab support staff who, in turn, contacts the CORES staff to ensure the PI request is valid (ex. PI is a valid member of the Penn State community).
